Staff Spotlight: Susan Davis
What is your name, title, credentials, and specialty?
I am Susan Davis, Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) and Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT). I earned my Associate Degree from Penn State as a Physical Therapist Assistant. I work in all areas of outpatient rehabilitation, but I have additional training in aquatic therapy and lymphedema.
What brought you to Mangiarelli Rehabilitation?
I went back to school to earn my PTA degree once my children were older. One of my sons had been treated at Mangiarelli Rehabilitation for a sports-related injury. I was impressed with the care he received. When I graduated, I put in my resume at Mangiarelli Rehabilitation and the rest is history!
How long have you worked here?
I have been at Mangiarelli Rehabilitation for 10 years.
Can you briefly describe your role at Mangiarelli Rehabilitation?
I treat patients under a plan of care established by the Physical Therapist. I communicate regularly with them regarding the goals, progress, and concerns of the patient.
Can you describe your specialty (or specialties)?
I have been in charge of the Aquatic Therapy program at Mangiarelli Rehabilitation for 10 years. I also became a Certified Lymphedema Therapist two and a half years ago. This means that I am trained to perform Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) on patients who have been diagnosed with Lymphedema.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The People! I really enjoy working with the patients, wellness clients, and my co-workers. As a privately-owned clinic, there is a closeness that isn’t there with a corporate-owned facility. We’ve had the same staff for years because it’s a great place to work! Patients get better and join our wellness program in order to stay healthy. It’s a very positive atmosphere.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy cooking, listening to music, and spending time with my family.
What do you wish people knew about physical therapy?
Our job is to give you the tools you need to manage your pain and improve your function. Exercise, when performed correctly and in the right amount, is the best thing you can do to improve your quality of life.
