Staff Spotlight: Patti Ciferno
What is your name, title, credentials, and specialty?
I am Patti Ciferno, a Physical Therapy Assistant for 26 years. I specialize in manual therapy (MFR) and core strengthening. I am also certified in Stott Pilates Institute in Mat and Reformer classes.
What brought you to Mangiarelli Rehabilitation?
I was looking for a private practice, a place that the approach for the patients was more individual and the working atmosphere was a very positive one. Paula and Mangiarelli Rehabilitation had (and have) that approach and atmosphere and I knew of Paula’s wonderful reputation.
How long have you worked here?
I’ve worked here 9 years.
Can you briefly describe your role at Mangiarelli Rehabilitation?
I am a physical therapy assistant, treating and carrying out patients’ exercise programs, performing manual therapy, and instructing patients in aquatic therapy.
Can you describe your specialty (or specialties)?
I specialize in myofascial release, a manual therapy which addresses soft tissue dysfunction: trigger points, scar tissue, and pain. I also specialize in core and pelvic floor strengthening along with proper postural alignment that is Pilates-based.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is working with those patients that come in to therapy in so much pain and being able to find what gets them out of pain. Treating patients to make them stronger and have relief from pain is one of my favorite aspects of my job—and making them laugh!
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to dance, work outside, and travel to see my adult children and new granddaughter!
What do you wish people knew about physical therapy?
I wish that people knew it is not all about “no pain, no gain.” We want to reduce patients’ pain so we progress their strength and flexibility.
